STOP PRESS: John is beginning to reduce his teaching commitments to allow more time for writing. So if you want to take this course, now is the time!
This is a top-level vocational course in horary astrology, taught by a master of the subject (The Mountain Astrologer) who is a wonderful teacher (FAI Journal) with students worldwide.
That it is a vocational course does not, of course, mean that all students intend to practice professionally: far from it. It does mean that the subject is taught with a depth, breadth and rigour that will enable them to do so with confidence should they so wish. Other, significantly cheaper, courses are available elsewhere for those who do not wish to engage with the subject at this level.
The course is demanding, as it must be if you are to achieve accurate results, but you get a great deal of tutorial support: my aim as your tutor is that you should succeed. Students do find the course rewarding, and even those who regard horary as only a sideline to their interest in natal astrology find the course transforms the way they look at a chart, giving them tools for a precision of judgement they would not have believed possible. I have a (very) limited number on places on a further course in Electional and Traditional Natal Astrology for graduates of this course who wish to extend their knowledge of traditional astrology.
The Course
Horary is the art of finding specific answers to specific questions by means of astrology. It involves precise, verifiable predictions. Unlike much modern astrology, there is no vagueness; it is clear and to the point. This is astrology that works and can be seen to work.
In my practice, I find that many of my clients have had natal readings - they have heard a lot about themselves, but have not received an answer to the immediate issue that concerns them. This is the role of horary: it will tell you whether the relationship will work out, when the cheque will arrive, where those lost papers are, or if the weather will be good enough to hold that barbecue-party.
The purpose of this course is simple: it is to take you to a point where you can judge horary charts with a good degree of reliability. Astrology is a craft, and my extensive experience of teaching by correspondence course, evening class and one-to-one has shown me that the best way to teach it is as a craft. So this course is modelled on a traditional craft apprenticeship, where the student learns by working under close supervision of the master. The basic structure of the course is adapted to suit the individual student's needs and interests by the addition of extra questions as necessary.
My aim is to make you proficient in horary, not just to pass you through the course, so you do have to get things right: this course is demanding. But the level of tutorial support you receive is equalled by few and surpassed by none. All tuition proceeds under the Apprentice's guiding principles: astrology can often be fun, and is always a delight. The clarity, simplicity and precision of tuition invariably surpass the student's expectations: "I've learnt more in six months with you than in twenty years of astrological study elsewhere," is a typical comment. Or, as another said: "On every course I have ever done, once I had paid my money all that they wanted to do was pass me through to a diploma as quickly as possible. This is the first time I have felt that someone really wants to teach me something."
The main text-book used is William Lilly's "Christian Astrology" (1647). This is the definitive work on the subject; there is no other author who combines Lilly's depth of learning with his breadth of experience. It is now available in a new edition with modern type-face.
We begin with straightforward lessons covering the techniques used; in the second part of the course you put these techniques into practice by judging a wide range of charts, some set by me, some of your own. Each lesson is mastered before moving on to the next. The length of the course varies with the individual student's ability and time available for study: think in terms of 1-2 years.
At the end of the course, you present your masterpiece: the piece of work through which you demonstrate your ability as a craftsman. This takes the form of a verifiable prediction before the event. With assessment throughout the course, and a masterpiece of good standard, you will qualify as a Horary Craftsman.
The course assumes a basic knowledge of chart construction, although additional lessons for complete beginners can be provided if required. I have many students who do not have English as first language, so this clearly need not be an obstacle: if you can understand this page, you should be able to cope with the course.
In sum: there are easier courses and there are cheaper courses. If you want a course that you can muddle through and still end up with a diploma, you are in the wrong place. If you want to learn horary, this is for you.
Warning: studying on this course, you will be learning to use astrological techniques that work accurately, precisely and reliably. This can change your life in the most remarkable and unexpected ways.
The Syllabus:
The first five lessons give a thorough understanding of the basic rules of horary, which is essential if you are to judge charts accurately. If you have studied astrology elsewhere, some of this may seem elementary; but there are major differences between traditional and modern rules, so it is vital to get the basics right.
Fees: the course costs £2260 (around 4250 US dollars, 5550 Aussie dollars) for two years; each year in excess is a further £100 (190 US dollars 250 Australian dollars). Fees are non-returnable, and may be paid as four instalments of £600 (around 1130 US dollars, 1450 Aussie dollars) if preferred. I use a secure on-line server for payment, or accept payment by bank transfer. It is possible to fail without completion if work is repeatedly below standard.
Books: the course is based around William Lilly's "Christian Astrology". Also required are works by Al-Biruni, Culpeper and others. The student should expect to spend around 90 UK pounds (around 170 US dollars, 250 Australian dollars) on books during the course.
The books needed at the start of the course are Christian Astrology and my own Horary Textbook.
Your Tutor: John Frawley Q.H.P. Author of The Real Astrology, winner of the Spica Award for International Book of the Year, and The Real Astrology Applied, John lectures and writes widely, and is editor of The Astrologer's Apprentice. His regular televised and published predictions using horary range from dating the fall of governments to forecasting the correct scores in a string of football matches. All tuition is by John himself: it is never delegated.
